Legacy Story Writer
by Stephanie Jo Gonzales
Preserve part of your life story in writing
I help older adults turn memory, meaning, and lived experience into polished written stories their families can keep.
Ways We Can Work Together
Some stories arrive in a single bright thread. Others unfold slowly, one memory leading to another. These offerings are designed to give each story the room it needs, whether we meet in person over tea or talk by phone across the miles.
One quiet story session, shaped into a polished written piece that preserves a meaningful chapter, memory, or turning point.
This is a lovely place to begin when there is one story that rises above the rest, one season that shaped a life, or one memory that deserves to be held with care. Sessions may take place in person when local, or by phone for those farther away.
Ideal for:
a single cherished story
a milestone or turning point
a family keepsake
a meaningful gift
Legacy Story Profile
A series of thoughtful story sessions, gathered into a small collection of written pieces that can be kept, shared, and returned to over time.
Some lives want more room. This offering is for those who want to preserve several stories rather than only one: the chapters, seasons, and memories that begin to form a fuller portrait when placed side by side. Sessions may be held in person or by phone, depending on location and preference.
Ideal for:
several life chapters
family history and memory
a keepsake collection
preserving voice over time
Life Story Collection
A more expansive story partnership for those who want a fuller life narrative, a memoir-shaped work, or a more complete written legacy.
This offering is for stories that need depth, structure, and space. It begins with conversation and listening, then grows into a larger written work that honors the shape and meaning of a life. Sessions may take place in person when possible, or by phone for clients across the country.
Ideal for:
fuller life narratives
memoir development
family legacy books
substantial story preservation projects

Listening for the Story that Wants to be Told
A life is vast. No single page can hold all of it, but a well-chosen story can carry more than we think: a turning point, a season, a voice, a way of being in the world.
I’ve spent much of my life listening for those stories. In the 1990s, I had the privilege of interviewing and writing about people who had lived nearly a century. I also wrote obituaries at the newspaper, where I learned that even the briefest tribute can hold a world when the right details are chosen. What matters most is not only what happened, but how a person remembers it, what they return to, and what still shines after all these years.
Later, after my father died, I found myself wanting something fuller and more personal than a standard obituary could offer. Looking back, I can see that instinct clearly now: all lives deserve more space than a template allows.
That is the heart of this work for me.

Begin Here.
If there is a story you’ve been meaning to preserve, I’d be honored to hear a little about it.
You do not need to arrive with everything neatly gathered. Sometimes people come with one vivid memory, one season of life, or one story they have carried for years. Sometimes they come only with the feeling that something important should not be lost.
Either way, we can begin gently.
Share as much or as little as you like. A few lines are enough to open the door.
